Nuorten Tampere, Young People’s Tampere is an internet site maintained by the city’s Youth Services. The site offers information and activities for young people living in Tampere. The city’s Youth Services employ approximately 50 people, most of whom are youth workers and youth leaders. Youth Centres
There are several youth centres that offer facilities for leisure time activities in Tampere. Along with the city’s Youth Services, the facilities are co-maintained by organisations, groups, and congregations.
The twelve youth centres maintained by the Youth Services are located all around Tampere and they are open to everyone, regardless of where you live. Youth Café Uniikki is a popular gathering place in the city centre and Activity Centre Vuoltsu is the place for those interested in arts and crafts. There is also a free of charge internet café at Vuoltsu.
The new youth centre is currently under construction and it is located in the premises of the old business college in the centre of Tampere.
Multifunction Centre
The old building in Koskipuisto was designed by Wivi Lönn in 1911. The building will undergo complete refurbishment and the new building will be handed over to the city’s Youth Services in May 2012. The official opening takes place in August 2012.
The new centre will have 2700 square metres of activity, conference and meeting facilities on five floors. The centre will also have its own internet café, game world, culture workshop and space for just hanging around. The centre will also have an area dedicated to arts and crafts as well as rooms equipped with audio and light equipment.
Demo studio
The demo studio is located in the Helapuisto youth centre in Hervanta and it is maintained by the city’s Youth Services. The studio is aimed at young musicians from Tampere who are taking their first steps towards stardom and musical world domination.
Arts and crafts workshops
At Vuoltsu’s arts and crafts and clay workshop it is possible to do all kinds of arts and crafts. You can get to know different arts and crafts forms and it doesn’t matter if your skills aren’t exactly perfect because the professional workers at Vuoltsu are there to help you out. Also, lots of different gift ideas and seasonal arts and crafts tips and ideas are on display in the area. Be inspired by Christmas, Easter, or Valentine’s Day. Come look around!
Internet café
The internet café at Vuoltsu is for everyone interested in computers and the internet, regardless of age or experience. Using the computers is easy and free of charge. The internet café has ten computers each of which can be reserved for three hours at a time.
There are always people around to give you a helping hand. You may reserve a computer in advance by phone (03 5656 4899) or by visiting the premises. The reservation must be made at least three hours in advance. The entrance to the internet café is on the courtyard on the bus station side of the Vuoltsu building.
Events
Youth Services organise lots of different events throughout the year, varying from small parties to big happenings. There is an array of events available for the city’s culture vultures and for those looking for leisure time activities. Some examples of the events are ChillHouse, Tampere Phenomenon, Polte and Kult Tour.
All events are substance free and they guarantee everyone a pleasant time to hang out with friends. Most of the events are also free of charge. Young people’s opinions and ideas are taken into consideration in the planning of these events and young people are also welcome to help organise the events.
